THE NEW FAFSA FORM – HEAR FROM AN EXPERT
I am sure most of you are aware by now that there have been some major changes made to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) process. The form has been completely redesigned, including the use of different terminology and use of a different formular for decision making. In an effort to provide you with the most updated information about these changes, I want to share with you a recently released Hot Topic Video produced by our Office of Public Affairs. The video contains an extended interview with Sandra Oliveira, the College’s executive director of financial aid, who discusses such issues as specific changes to the FAFSA form, tips for preparing the form, and where to find more information.
Sandra, who has had a long career in financial aid, has been at PC for eighteen years. She and her team of dedicated experts, invite you to check out their office website at: https://financial-aid.providence.edu/. I am sure you will find the “Ask A Question” link, Contact Information, and a Net Price Calculator especially helpful as you move along in the process.
Here is the link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xjCcXjn6AQ..
Also please review the additional information below that Sandra has provided regarding the changes.

- The comments included in the video apply to any student, new or returning, that is applying for need-based financial aid at Providence College.
- The changes made to the FAFSA this year have proven challenging for families when completing the application or making corrections. Furthermore, there have been some significant delays for families trying to access the application and the delivery of the results to our office. Just last week, we were notified that schools will not begin receiving data until the middle of March at the earliest. What this means is that we are unable to confirm the filing status or assist with any corrections until we receive the application data.
- Current Providence College students who plan to apply for need-based aid for the 2024-2025 academic year must provide both the FAFSA and CSS Profile by April 15th.
- If there are continued delays with the FAFSA, we will communicate these updates to our students and modify application deadlines for the FAFSA as needed. However, it is important that students still complete the CSS Profile by April 15th as this is the application that will be used to determine institutional need-based grant funding.
