A Prayer of Thanksgiving

As director of the Providence College Parent Program, I wish to take this opportunity to extend to you and your families a very blessed Thanksgiving. In this time full of uncertainty, we are all learning to live our daily lives differently. What remains constant during this season is our desire to come together in prayer – whether in person or virtually – to give thanks for our many blessings. For as we know, prayer gives us hope and brings us light.
Fr. Mark Nowel, assistant to the provost and a dear friend and colleague, recently forwarded to me a prayer of thanksgiving that I am pleased to share with all of you.
God Bless,
Jackie
Heavenly Father, Giver of all that is good, we approach You in this season of family gatherings with hearts filled with thanksgiving. This season and this holiday give us the opportunity to reflect on the innumerable blessings that have filled our lives at Your gracious hands. Despite the separations foisted on us by the pandemic, we give thanks for the blessing of our family, and the family bonds that are stronger than the separations we’ve experienced. Despite the storminess of the political campaign from which we have recently emerged, we give thanks for the blessing of our country and the freedoms we enjoy in this democracy. Despite the anxiety and the fears which sometimes creep into our consciousness as to what the future holds for us, we give thanks that You are a Provident and loving Father, Who has promised to accompany us on our journey, and into Whose hands we place our faith, our hopes, our prayers. We make this prayer through Our Lord, Jesus Christ, Who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.
